Report

GLASGOW were crowned Championship Pairs winners thanks to Chris Harris and Benjamin Basso on a dramatic night at Oxford.

The Tigers duo edged out defending champions Redcar in the Final with Basso winning the race ahead of Charles Wright whilst Harris crucially overtook Danny King for third place.

They had earlier come through an epic semi-final against the host club, featuring Pairs racing at its best as Harris and Basso combined to squeeze out Cheetahs star Lewis Kerr. The Bears defeated Poole in the other semi-final.

Harris said: “I just tried to get over Danny in the Final. I knew if I got that third place we had it in the bag.

“But when you’ve got a hard charger like Danny behind you, it’s hard because you know he won’t give up.

“I’ve won this twice in the old Elite League but not at this level, so it’s nice to put this on the mantelpiece now.”
