Report
AT the Edinburgh staging of the British Youth Championship yesterday afternoon it was another successful event where all 30 riders across the four classes of 500cc, 250cc, 125cc and 125cc Support did themselves proud on such a technical track which had received some rain fall before the start time.
In the 500cc class it was a first win for Middlesbrough’s William Hocaniuk, who just dropped one point all afternoon and showed that he has been improving all season and finally got the win that he has been aiming for, and also put himself within a fantastic opportunity of claiming the series silver medal in this class.
Jamie Etherington, who top scored for his National League team at Armadale just 24 hours before the Youth Round at the same venue, also kept himself in the mix for the series silver medal with another second place finish in this round.
William Cairns was crowned the 2024 500cc British Youth Champion having secured 3rd place on the day, which was enough to claim this year’s title, after recovering from a fall in his first heat when leading, but then went on to win his remaining three races.
In the 250cc class Cooper Rushen knew only a win would guarantee him winning the 250cc British Championship for the first time prior to the final round at Glasgow today (Sunday), and he had a faultless display winning all his heats so claiming yet another round victory to be crowned 2024 250cc British Champion.
The race for the podium places in the 250cc class continues to be tight as Archie Rolph, Ollie Binns and Seth Norman all go into this afternoon’s round with a chance of claiming the Silver or Bronze medal after finishing second, third and fourth respectively at Edinburgh.
In the 125cc class Oliver Bovingdon, like Rushen, won his class to win his second consecutive British 125cc Championship, and with Lewis Hague and Rocco Webb making a podium finish again it is therefore looking like they will claim the Silver and Bronze series medals later today.
Charlie Fletcher completed the winners list leading the way in the 125cc Support Class with Tia May Brant and Adam Sidyk also in the top three.
