BERWICK moved up to fifth in the Cab Direct Championship with a 47-35 win over Workington in their final home match of the season.

Reserve Jack Smith enjoyed a great night with 11+2 from six rides and mid-season signing Jonas Jeppesen scored 10+1 as the Bandits controlled the meeting at Shielfield Park.

The final race of the meeting was a 5-0 from Smith and Peter Kildemand in Heat 14 when both Comets riders failed to finish, and a halt was then called with the curfew reached after an extended delay when the Bandits’ Sam Hagon crashed in Heat 10, suffering a suspected dislocated hip.

Troy Batchelor top-scored for the Comets with 8+1 from five rides, and Tate Zischke also won two races. The scheduled return fixture at the GT Tyres Arena on Sunday has been postponed due to the weather.
