Report
BELLE VUE produced a storming finish to take match and aggregate points from a hard-fought Roses clash with Sheffield at the National Speedway Stadium.
The Aces came from four points down to win 52-38, clinching the additional point with a 5-1 in Heat 15 as Jaimon Lidsey and Dan Bewley came from the back.
Lidsey raced to 13+1 for the home side with Bewley adding 12+1 and Rising Star Connor Bailey impressed with 7+1, with their play-off place now officially secure.
New Sheffield signing Tai Woffinden was unbeaten from his first three rides and finished with 10+1 and Tobiasz Musielak added 10 – but the Tigers dropped out of the play-off places, albeit with matches in hand.
Lidsey said: “It feels good to say we finally beat them! Three times this year they’ve defeated us so this result was long overdue and it was great to do it on home shale.
“We expected the match we got. Sheffield are a strong side and at one point they were winning the meeting so we knew we needed to do something to avoid losing a fourth time.
“At the half-way point, we got together and discussed what was going on. The track was quite different after the weekend’s events but we managed to adapt and came on strong at the end.”
Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “We expected a tough run because Belle Vue really have been flying.
“It was a real good test for us though, and while we are disappointed with the way things panned out, the meeting has been and gone now.
“Yes we were disappointed to lose by 14 having got ourselves into a decent position after the first seven races, yes we were disappointed to just miss out on that aggregate point – but the season goes on and the fixtures are coming thick and fast.”
