Leicester Lion Cubs v Oxford Chargers

LEICESTER extended their 100 per cent record at WSRA NDL level this season with a convincing 56-34 home win over champions Oxford.

The Lion Cubs moved to within a point of leaders Edinburgh with another strong result at the Hydroscand Arena, and both teams have three league wins out of three so far.

Freddy Hodder notched 13 points from five rides for the hosts with Max Perry on 12+1, and both riders dropped their only points to Chargers skipper Jody Scott.

Four of the visitors’ six race wins came from Scott, who scored 13 with his only defeat coming in Heat 13 when he was penalised for touching the tapes and could not pass Hodder or Ben Morley from the handicap.

Leicester manager Jen Crossland said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the team, every single one of them, and I did call that performance beforehand.

“We want to win the league of course, but there’s a long way to go on that and Edinburgh will be tough.

“I think they’re the team we’ve got to look out for, but I’m absolutely delighted with our lads. The are a great bunch to work with.”

Scott said: “I felt our team performance was good. Leicester have got a strong team all the way down to reserve, but our lads kept on battling.

“It was a hard meeting for us, but we gave it a good go. We’ve still got another chance at beating Leicester when they come to Oxford later in the season.”
