Belle Vue Aces v King’s Lynn Stars

BELLE Vue are ten points clear at the top of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership after coming through a tough examination from King’s Lynn in Manchester on Monday.

The Aces won 48-42 on the night, a result which also mathematically confirms their play-off place, whilst the Stars could take credit from being the best league visitors to the National Speedway Stadium so far this season.

The home side were restricted to two 5-1s, in Heats 8 and 13, the latter coming from Brady Kurtz and Jason Doyle to put their side close to victory, which they secured despite former Aces rider Ben Cook dominating the closing stages.

Cook (13) provided Doyle’s (13+1) only defeat of the meeting in Heat 15 as he finished with wins in his last three rides.

Belle Vue manager Mark Lemon said: “I always knew that King’s Lynn had a pretty handy team with some World class riders who ride this place very well.

“That was proven tonight and it was a battle, no doubt about it, and it was pleasing that again we came out on top.

“We had no PK (Peter Kildemand) and no Tate (Zischke), and covering PK’s rides tonight was quite challenging, so I think that was probably why the scoreline was a bit closer.”

King’s Lynn boss Rob Lyon said: “I was proud of the boys tonight, they rode really well as a team and to only lose by six here, given what Belle Vue have been doing, is a credible result.

“We were in it for quite a number of heats, and there were just a couple of results that went the way we wouldn’t have expected, but that’s speedway.

“I think we came tonight with no real pressure because nobody was expecting us to get a result, so we can take something from the fact that we scored 42 points. There’s still a lot to play for this season.”
