Edinburgh Monarchs v Redcar Bears

REDCAR are through to the MAXiCab KO Cup semi-finals with a 45-45 draw at Edinburgh enough to see them proceed on aggregate.

The Bears comfortably defended their first leg advantage of 12 points with the Monarchs badly hampered by the loss of skipper Paco Castagna, who suffered an ankle injury in a heavy Heat 3 crash.

With the Redcar reserves Jody Scott and Jake Mulford dominating their hosts by scoring 15 (paid 18) compared to three, a solid all-round performance was enough to put the visitors through.

Dan Thompson and Kye Thomson (both 13+1) combined for a last-race 5-1 to save a draw on the night for Edinburgh, and Justin Sedgmen scored 10+1. Scott top-scored for the Bears with 9+2 and Jake Allen picked up 9+1.

Thomson said: “It was a shame what happened tonight with the captain going over the fence, that was nasty.

“I’m just glad he’s on his feet even though they don’t work so good at the moment.

“It put a bit of a damper on the team but we fought hard, it just wasn’t enough and Redcar came on strong towards the end.”
