Workington Comets v Berwick Bandits

BERWICK are through to the MAXiCab KO Cup semi-finals for the first time in 21 years after defending their first leg advantage at Workington on Sunday.

The Bandits took a 26-point lead to Cumbria and were never in danger of seeing that overturned, despite a terrific 18-point maximum from Comets No.1 Jonas Jeppesen.

The home side won 48-42 on the day but the visitors had secured their progression to the last four of the competition with four races remaining.

Troy Batchelor added 12 points and Tate Zischke 11+1 for the Comets whilst Peter Kildemand headed a solid Bandits display with 10+1.

Berwick boss Stewart Dickson said: “It’s no surprise that Workington looked as if they had a point to prove after Saturday night.

“We were focussed and professional about it and got the job done. It’s been a long time since the club reached the latter stages of the Cup, but we are certainly not there to make up the numbers.

“It was a good all-round performance and we need to keep it going.”
