Poole Pirates v Plymouth Gladiators

POOLE sealed top spot in the Cab Direct Championship with another emphatic home win, defeating Plymouth 59-31 at Wimborne Road.

Skipper Zach Cook scored his third 15-point maximum in the space of the last five home meetings, and the Pirates suffered just two last places throughout the meeting.

The Gladiators were 18 points down after Heat 6 with their sole success coming with a 5-1 from guest Troy Batchelor (12) and Danny King in Heat 9.

The result means the Pirates will face the fourth-placed team in next month’s play-off semi-finals, whilst the Gladiators have completed their league campaign and are fifth in the table, although they could be overhauled by Berwick and Redcar.

Cook said: “Obviously it feels good to get a full house. But these performances don’t really matter; it is what we do in the play-offs and the finals.

“No-one remembers these things, so that is your aim: keep the ball rolling, keep the momentum going into the big meetings and we’ll see if we can collect those trophies.”
