Scunthorpe Scorpions v Workington Comets

SCUNTHORPE repelled a strong challenge from Workington to take a 50-40 victory and move to within one more win of confirming a Cab Direct Championship play-off place.

The Scorpions led throughout but saw a 12-point advantage cut to four by a spirited Comets comeback which left the visitors still in the meeting after Heat 13.

A 5-1 from Michael Palm Toft and Nathan Ablitt in the next race secured the result for the hosts, who are up to 21 points in the league which may already be enough for a top four finish.

Josh Pickering scored 13 from five rides, despite conceding a 5-1 to Troy Batchelor and Tate Zischke in Heat 10, whilst Palm Toft notched 12. Drew Kemp top scored for the Comets with 10.

Pickering said: “It was great to be back riding at Scunthorpe after a few weeks. Workington pushed us hard, but we pulled together.

“It was important for us to get the win as well as the aggregate point tonight as it puts us in a good position for the final matches of the season.”
