Scunthorpe Scorpions v Poole Pirates

SCUNTHORPE and Poole fought out a thrilling 45-45 draw at the Eddie Wright Raceway in a meeting which fully lived up to expectations.

There were never more than two points between the sides and the lead changed hands six times with the Pirates going two points up thanks to guest Edward Kennett and Lewis Kerr in Heat 12 before Luke Harrison and Josh Pickering responded to come from the back in a dramatic Heat 13.

Pirates levelled again as Kennett won Heat 14 in a 4-2 with Cooper Rushen, and the match ended all square as visiting captain Zach Cook got the better of Luke Harrison for third place in the decider.

Pickering scored a 14+1 paid maximum for the hosts backed up by Harrison on 11+1, whilst Kennett proved a very astute guest choice for the visitors with 12+2 from five rides.

Pirates co-boss Gary Havelock said: “That was a proper Poole performance, so different from our last meeting when we were at Berwick.

“That Heat 14 result was impressive, but everyone turned in a shift for us tonight, from one to seven. Everyone chipped in.”
