Oxford Cheetahs v Plymouth Gladiators

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey is delighted to see his team confounding the critics this season – and he wants their form to continue to secure a play-off place.

The Scorpions will go top of the Cab Direct Championship if they defeat Oxford at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday, after an emphatic home win over Plymouth last week.

Godfrey said: “Whoever thought we’d be in this position come July! There were plenty of people who wrote us off at the start of the season and has us down as bankers for the wooden spoon.

“I remember one comment online saying we had one heat leader, one second string and five reserves, but I think the boys are proving otherwise.

“Those supposed ‘five reserves’ have done a job, haven’t they! Fair play to this team, they are proving a lot of people wrong.”
