Redcar Bears v Edinburgh Monarchs

REDCAR moved off the foot of the Cab Direct Championship with a hard-fought 49-41 win over Edinburgh at the ECCO Arena.

The match went to a last heat decider where home No.1 Nicolai Klindt teamed up with impressive reserve Jody Scott for a 5-1 over the visitors’ top two Dan Thompson and Kye Thomson.

It was at reserve where the Bears scored heavily as Scott (11+2) and Jake Mulford combined for 19 points between them compared to the Monarchs’ two, whilst Klindt (12) was unbeaten after finishing at the back in Heat 1.

Thomson (12+1) and Thompson (10) led the Edinburgh scoring but they were left to rue a 5-1 concession in Heat 12 when Jordy Loftus came to grief after Scott surged inside him heading into the third lap.

Edinburgh manager John Campbell said: “Nothing went right for us on the night. From Mitch’s (Cluff) engine failing just before Heat 2, Jonatan (Grahn) not being able to ride his number one (bike) all night due to electrical problems, and refereeing decisions going against us, particularly the Jordy decision in Heat 12.

“Our riders tried so hard that they got in each other’s way. Just not our night.”
