Report

LEICESTER Fox Cubs captain Will Cairns scored an 18-point maximum to steer his injury-hit side to a narrow 46-44 win over Birmingham in the National Development Trophy.

Cairns reeled off six wins out of six and got the better of Bulls captain Darryl Ritchings in an exciting final race to secure the victory.

Fellow teenagers Sonny Springer (12) and Cooper Rushen (10+2) also impressed for the Fox Cubs whilst Ritchings scored 13 for the Bulls, who took the aggregate point.

Leicester manager Jen Crossland said: “It was a really good team performance, and there are definitely some learnings to take from it as well.

“The main thing for the Fox Cubs team was to get a win under our belts, and they worked well together in the pits, helping each other with bikes.”
