Leicester Lion Cubs v Steelers

LEICESTER Lion Cubs held on for a 47-43 win over the Steelers in a hard-fought WSRA National Development League clash on Sunday.

The visitors fought back from eight points down in the closing stages and looked like they could draw the contest and set up a Super Heat when they held a 5-1 in Heat 15 from Luke Harrison and Ben Morley.

But with Cooper Rushen challenging hard for the home side, Morley suffered mechanical trouble and the 3-3 was enough for the Lion Cubs to win despite the withdrawal of Sam McGurk and captain Max James being unable to take his last ride.

15-year-old Rushen marked his first appearance at No.1 with a 14-point haul and Ben Trigger scored 10+1, whilst Harrison led the way for the Steelers with 11+1.

Leicester manager Jen Crossland said: “The team really pulled together because once again we finished with only five riders, but we got the win and we’re delighted.

“We mucked in together, and we had to swap races around with Eli (Meadows) and Ryan (Ingram) coming in, and they did a great job.”
