Report
OXFORD got their Cab Direct Championship play-off bid back on track with a vital 49-41 victory at Scunthorpe on Friday.
The Cheetahs had lost their last two home matches but they began to make amends by taking both match and aggregate points from the Eddie Wright Raceway in a last heat decider.
They led for much of a close contest in Lincolnshire and appeared to have put it to bed when they went eight points up with two heats to go, only for Luke Harrison and Connor Mountain to bring the Scorpions back into contention with a 5-1 in Heat 14.
Another home maximum in the last race would have set up a Super Heat, but Sam Masters and guest Antti Vuolas this time got the better of Harrison and Mountain to secure the away win.
Masters scored 14 points, missing out only to Mountain in Heat 11, with Vuolas contributing a crucial 11+3 as he stood in for Jordan Jenkins, and reserve Francis Gusts picked up 11. Mountain top-scored for the hosts with 13+1 from six rides.
