WORKINGTON secured a big result in the race for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs with a 49-41 win at Berwick on Saturday.
The Comets fought back from a six-point deficit at the halfway stage at Shielfield Park to turn the meeting around and move clear in fourth place in the league standings ahead of today’s (Sunday) return match.
Claus Vissing and Paul Starke secured the victory with a 4-2 in Heat 14 as the visitors triumphed despite Antti Vuolas failing to score and not riding after picking up a shoulder injury in Heat 7.
Comets boss James Denham said: “We’re definitely a second half team, we have been all year!
“The guys have dug deep tonight. We lost Antti early on struggling with his neck and shoulder, but I’m proud of the guys to bring the victory home.
“This is doing our play-off chances a world of good, and the guys deserve it.”
Berwick manager Stewart Dickson said: “Workington seemed to want it more than us which was disappointing.
“Four race winners at home tells its own story but we go again tomorrow and I am looking for a bit more fight.”
