Report

SCUNTHORPE ended Poole’s unbeaten run in the Cab Direct Championship this season with a 48-42 win at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The Scorpions became the first team to defeat the Pirates over the regular 15 races in league competition as Michael Palm Toft won a last heat decider over Tom Brennan with Jake Allen holding third place.

Palm Toft led the scoring for the home side with 13 points whilst Richard Lawson (12) and Brennan (10+2) reached double figures for the visitors, who had fought back from ten points down to take it down to the wire.

The result did give the Pirates the aggregate point but with the Scorpions now on 23 in the league, they are close to confirming their play-off spot.

Lawson said: “It was a bit frustrating at times, we set off with that Heat 1 not going too well and I think it had to do with the gate choices.

“But I felt like a few of us were riding really well and we never gave up, and we were still in with a shout in Heat 15, but this time it didn’t quite go our way.

“Nevertheless we are in a comfortable position in the league, we did want to win, and like I said we never gave up, but we got that consolation aggregate point.”
