Report

SCUNTHORPE moved level on points with Cab Direct Championship leaders Oxford after a convincing 55-35 win over Glasgow.

The Tigers’ hopes at the Eddie Wright Raceway were badly hit when Steve Worrall was ruled out due to illness, and the Scorpions raced to three 5-1s in the first five races to take control.

Michael Palm Toft made a successful return from injury with 10+1 from four rides whilst Jake Allen (13+1) was unbeaten until Heat 15, when his maximum was spoiled by an outstanding effort from the back by Chris Harris.

The Glasgow skipper racked up 15 points from seven rides, backed up by Leon Flint with 10, but Ace Pijper (6+1) was their only other significant scorer.

Scunthorpe manager David Howe said: “I’m very happy, and I’m really pleased for Michael in his first meeting back for quite a few weeks after injury.

“Fair play to Glasgow, missing Stevie was a massive loss for them, we’re fully aware of that, but the boys have done the job and I’m very happy with the team.”

Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “The boys gave it 110 per cent tonight, I’m pleased with the effort. We were always going to be up against it without Steve.

“I think with Stevie in the team we would have pushed Scunthorpe all the way. It’s ifs and buts. Stevie’s not in the team, Scunthorpe have won, no complaints.”
