Report
POOLE moved to the top of the Cab Direct Championship with a dominant 55-35 win over Plymouth at Wimborne Road.
The Pirates have joined Oxford and Scunthorpe on 14 points, with matches in hand, with their margin of victory over the Gladiators ensuring their race points difference now exceeds that of the Cheetahs.
Tom Brennan (12+2) and captain Ben Cook (12+1) led the way for the home side whilst Richard Lawson chipped in with 10+1.
But the Gladiators’ problems increased with Nico Covatti (lateral pain) and Kyle Newman (wrist injury) both withdrawn from the meeting after crashes. Guest Drew Kemp stepped in for Dan Thompson to good effect with 12+1 from six rides.
Cook said: “It was a good performance tonight from all of the boys and a little bit better for myself as well.
“You can’t complain at all, the boys dug in deep and showed what we can do around here, and I think we are going to keep getting better as well.
“I am benefitting from getting more meetings. The busier you are the more you can learn and the better you get, I guess.”
