Report
SCUNTHORPE are up to second in the Cab Direct Championship after defeating Edinburgh 50-39 at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
The Scorpions made a flying start to the meeting, going 18 points in front after eight races, but the Monarchs then performed a successful recovery to take the aggregate point.
No.1 Josh Pickering (15+1) was involved in three 5-1s in the second half of the meeting to narrow the gap despite the Scorpions recording a 5-0 in Heat 10.
Skipper Simon Lambert led the Scunthorpe scoring with 14 from six rides, and Kyle Howarth added 11+3.
Manager David Howe said: “It’s a bit disappointing to have been 19 points up and only winning by 11, and it kind of went a bit wrong in the pits.
“We had two punctures on the rider-replacement tyre, there were just little bits and pieces, not excuses but reasons – but we didn’t lose the aggregate point tonight, we lost it at Edinburgh.
“It was another good performance at home, so I can’t complain about that.”
Pickering said: “It was always going to be tough. Scunthorpe are dialled in around their home track, the start of the meeting we did not start well and you were getting covered in shale if you didn’t make the gate, but the result was there in the end I guess when it comes to the bonus point and that was the main thing.
“We have all jumped in and done our part, it is as a collective 1-7 and we have all chipped away and everyone contributed, so it is credit to the boys that we all stuck in and as I said in regards the aggregate point we got the job done.”
