Report

REDCAR defeated Oxford in a controversial Super Heat at the ECCO Arena after the sides fought out a 45-45 draw in the Cab Direct Championship.

The visitors fought back from eight points down to level the scores, with a stunning ride from Sam Masters against Charles Wright and Danny King in Heat 15 taking the meeting into overtime.

But Oxford captain Scott Nicholls was penalised for movement at the start and was unable to make up ground from the handicap, so King and Wright were able to follow Masters home to win it for the Bears.

There was consolation for the Cheetahs as they picked up one match point for the ‘draw’ plus the aggregate point, which moved them to the top of the table.

Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “It was a shame that the night ended like that, because there were so many positives

“We’ve taken four out of five points from two tough meetings this week, and the efforts of the boys have taken us top.

“We showed a lot of spirit in coming back from eight points down tonight. Jordan (Jenkins) and Cam (Heeps) did a great job in backing up Sam and Scott, while Luke (Killeen) was unlucky not to score more points.”
