Report

GLASGOW skipper Chris Harris stormed a 15-point maximum as the Tigers opened their Cab Direct Championship defence with a hard-fought win over Workington.

The league newcomers fought back from conceding 5-1s in each of the first two races and set up a nervous finale by levelling the scores in Heat 11.

But after the Tigers edged back ahead in the next race, Harris twice defeated Craig Cook in the closing stages as the home side took the match 47-43.

The full house for Harris was backed up by Leon Flint with nine and guest Jack Smith had another good night at Ashfield with 8+1, whilst Cook (10+1) and guest Dan Thompson (9+1) led the scoring for the Comets.

Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “Chris was out of this world, he led us to another big victory.

“Workington are one of the most in-form sides in the UK and we knew it would be tough.

“But Chris won all the big races including two of the last three to make sure we didn’t slip up.”

GLASGOW 47: Chris Harris 15, Leon Flint 9, Jack Smith 8+1, James Pearson 7+2, Steve Worrall 3, Freddy Hodder 3, Paul Starke 2+2.
WORKINGTON 43: Craig Cook 10+1, Dan Thompson 9+1, Claus Vissing 8+1, Tate Zischke 7+1, Troy Batchelor 7+1, Celina Liebmann 2+1, Sam McGurk 0.
