Report

SHEFFIELD missed the chance to secure top spot jn the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership after they were beaten 48-42 at resurgent King’s Lynn on Thursday.

The defending champions have completed their schedule on 42 match points, a total which can be matched by Leicester if they win home and away against the Stars next week and improve their race points difference by 14 in the process.

The Tigers did take the aggregate point at the Adrian Flux Arena but they lost out in a last heat decider where home guest Ben Cook and captain Niels-Kristian Iversen took a 4-2 over Jack and Chris Holder.

Cook scored 14 points from six rides for the Stars with Iversen adding 11+1 whilst Jack Holder racked up 18+1 in a seven-ride schedule for Sheffield and Chris notched 11.

King’s Lynn manager Rob Lyon said: “Again, it was a great team performance. The boys put in a shift and pulled off another win against another play-off team which is great.

“Ben is a great little rider, he’s improving all the time and he’s got a big future in the sport.

“It was a great performance from him, he sort of led the way really with Jan (Kvech) struggling a little bit with his arm but he still had some important rides for us and Niels played a captain’s role once again.”

Sheffield boss Simon Stead said: “It certainly wasn’t from a lack of effort on the boys’ behalf, it just wasn’t enough tonight and King’s Lynn deserved their win.

“We pushed them as hard as we could but we just fell a little bit short.

“Unfortunately, that leaves it out of our hands as to what happens now with who finishes top of the league but we’ve done as much as we can and now we have to focus on what’s coming up.”

KING’S LYNN 48: Ben Cook 14, Niels-Kristian Iversen 11+1, Jan Kvech 7+2, Anders Rowe 7+1, Lewis Kerr 6+2, Connor Mountain 3+1, Benjamin Basso r/r.
SHEFFIELD 42: Jack Holder 18+1, Chris Holder 11, Josh Pickering 7, Kyle Howarth 3+1, Jason Edwards 3+1, Joe Thompson 0, Tai Woffinden r/r.
