Report

SHEFFIELD pulled clear in second place in the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership with a 54-36 win over rivals Belle Vue at Owlerton.

The Tigers swept the Aces aside in the early stages and were ten points to the good before Dan Bewley took to the track, as the British Champion provided the bulk of the resistance for the visitors.

Holder brothers Chris (13) and Jack (11) led the Sheffield scoring whilst Bewley racked up 16 from six rides as the Aces suffered their heaviest defeat of the season.

Sheffield manager Simon Stead said: “I thought it was a really good, solid, all-round team performance and I couldn’t have asked for much more from the lads.

“It was one of those performances that goes to show what we’re truly about and capable of when all departments of the team are firing.

“We were getting points from everywhere; from the heat-leaders, from the middle order, from the reserves and that was really pleasing to see because we’ve had a few gaps here and there so far this season.”

Bewley said: “I honestly don’t know what happened. The boys really like Sheffield, it’s an awesome track to ride but we just didn’t seem to get going at all and it just wasn’t our night.

“In the past, we’ve been able to carry each other, but it’s one meeting. It’s not ideal because we want to win them all, so we are disappointed with the result.

“I had a pretty decent night but at the same time I’ve had poor nights here as well, and our away form is something we absolutely need to work on in the second half of the year.”

SHEFFIELD 54: Chris Holder 13, Jack Holder 11, Tai Woffinden 8, Kyle Howarth 7+2, Dan Gilkes 7+1, Josh Pickering 5, Jason Edwards 3+1.
BELLE VUE 36: Dan Bewley 16, Chris Harris 5, Jaimon Lidsey 5, Norick Blodorn 4+1, Ben Cook 3+1, Connor Mountain 2, Connor Bailey 1.
