Report

LEICESTER moved four points clear at the top of the NDL table with a thumping 59-30 win at Berwick – with three riders recording maximums.

Youngster Ashton Boughen (13+2) was unbeaten from five rides for his first full house for the club, whilst skipper Joe Thompson returned from injury with a 12-point maximum, and guest Lee Complin added 10+2 from four rides.

The Lion Cubs dominated at Shielfield Park as the Bullets were limited to just three race wins, whilst Leicester youngster Max Perry thankfully walked away from a heavy crash in Heat 12.

Cubs manager Dave Howard said: “It was a fantastic performance which gives us all three points with the aggregate point as well, and it puts us in a good position for the rest of the season.

“Ashton was absolutely amazing, pulling away into the distance to get his paid maximum, and Lee was a fantastic guest with a paid maximum.

“It was great for Joe to come back with a full maximum after his broken collarbone, and Tom Spencer (10+2) got his best-ever score for us which was incredible considering that at the end of every race he was struggling to hang on because of his arm.”

Berwick boss Kevin Little said: “We were well beaten on the night by an excellent Leicester side.

“It was a disappointing performance, but we just couldn’t match the Cubs from the gate.”
