Report

JORDAN Jenkins and Henry Atkins both scored maximums as Oxford recovered an early deficit to secure a 49-40 win over Belle Vue in the National Development League.

Jenkins went through the card with five straight wins and Atkins carded 13+2, with the home side taking control with 5-1s in Heats 5 and after conceding a 5-0 to the Colts in Heat 2.

Former Chargers rider Sam Hagon top-scored for the visitors with 8+1 as they did enough for the aggregate point despite skipper Jack Smith not taking his final ride after a crash in his second outing.

Oxford manager Peter Schroeck said: “This was a much-deserved victory for the team and everyone showed great resilience to come from behind after an early blip.

“Jordan and Henry were outstanding and we can ask no more from them. They’re really thriving on home shale, and that’s testament to the pathway they have here by doubling up with the Cheetahs.”

Colts co-boss Steve Williams said: “There were a few crashes along the way unfortunately. Matt Marson had a big one in Heat 3 which left him with some pain in his wrists but thankfully nothing is broken.

“Then Jack had quite a big one in his second ride and, given he’s only just back from the mandatory concussion rest period, we felt it was best for his fitness to pull him out of his last ride.

“We can’t fault the lads’ efforts tonight. They all put everything they had out there and, overall, it got us the aggregate point which we can be very happy with.”
