Report
GLASGOW duo Benjamin Basso and Chris Harris both scored maximums as the Tigers fended off Edinburgh to win 49-41 at Ashfield.
Basso went through the card with 15 and Harris scored 13+2, combining for a 5-1 in Heat 15 after the weakened Monarchs had taken the Cab Direct Championship meeting all the way to the last race.
And that was their second 5-1 in the space of three races with Heat 13, where they also got the better of Edinburgh guest Justin Sedgmen, hailed as one of the best-ever at the venue.
Sedgmen top-scored for the Monarchs with 11+1 and newcomer Bastian Borke impressed with 8+1 along with Paco Castagna.
Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “It was a race that was off the scale. Race of the season, maybe race of the decade. It was the best race I’ve ever seen at Ashfield involving three riders like that.
“Both Ben and Chris delivered when it really mattered tonight. We needed them and they produced the goods in Heats 13 and 15 to get us the win.
“It was a strange night, some of the boys couldn’t get it right and Edinburgh were outstanding. They came to our place with a depleted team yet put up a massive fight and full credit to them.”
Borke said: “I think we are a good team and when we get everyone back and get a consistent team we’ll be even better.
“We’ll be able to work together on set-ups and bikes even more and I think we’ll do well.”
