SCUNTHORPE had three maximum scorers in an impressive 55-35 Cab Direct Championship win over Redcar at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
Ryan Douglas (14+1) and Michael Palm Toft (13+2) were both unbeaten from five rides whilst skipper Simon Lambert added 10+2 from four, combining for three 5-1s with Douglas on each occasion they rode together.
The win moves the Scorpions to the top of the early league table, whilst top performer for the Bears was Connor Bailey with an excellent 10+1 score as he earned a nomination for Heat 15.
Scunthorpe boss Dave Peet said: “I’m very pleased with tonight’s performance. The whole team put a shift in – the entire one-to-seven contributed points. When that happens, we win comfortably like we did tonight.
“It’s not often we have three riders all on a paid maximum. It’s a very nice headache to have for Heat 15! Dougy was Dougy, while Michael showed his fuel problems are long behind him – he’s still using the same bikes but now they’re working for him and he’s able to show what he’s capable of.
“But I’m most pleased about the paid maximum for Simon Lambert. He’s racing the best I’ve seen him this season and the paid maximum was a just reward for his efforts.”
Bears manager Gavin Parr said: “It’s brought us down to earth after winning at Glasgow, but I can’t fault the effort. Everyone gave 100 per cent but it wasn’t our night.
“In the last three weeks it’s just clicked for Connor. He’s riding in the NDL so he’s getting his races at Workington, and all of a sudden winning races breeds confidence. He was fantastic tonight.”
