Report
SCUNTHOPE have secured their place in the BSN Series semi-finals – and Friday’s opponents Redcar could yet join them in the last four of the competition.
The Scorpions needed to score 41 points at the Ecco Arena to be mathematically certain of progression, and they did exactly that as the Bears won the meeting 49-41, coming from six points down after the visitors made a fast start to proceedings.
Home skipper Charles Wright led the comeback with a faultless 18-point maximum, with Danny King adding 10+2 including a vital 5-1 in Heat 13 to effectively seal the match. Ryan Douglas scored 10 for the Scorpions.
The aggregate point means Scunthorpe are confirmed as group winners, whilst Redcar can qualify as best runners-up by avoiding defeat in their final match at home to Birmingham next Saturday.
Scorpions boss Dave Peet said: “Redcar are a strong team around their home track, and it was always going to be a tricky meeting tonight.
“Even when we took the lead, I knew there was every possibility that they would come back at us. During the meeting, our focus changed from winning the meeting to making sure we got to 41 points.
“Everyone contributed and it was a team effort to reach those 41 points, and the boys showed plenty of resilience and dug in during the final two races.”
