Report

JORDAN Jenkins was crowned National Development League Riders’ Champion with an impressive performance at Scunthorpe on Sunday.

The Oxford skipper won the prestige meeting on 14 points, one ahead of former champion Max Clegg who defeated Jason Edwards in a run-off for second place after both finished with 13.

Jenkins dropped his only point in Heat 9 to Edwards in what was, at the time, a clash of three unbeaten riders as Joe Thompson and Ben Morley had won their first two outings.

But he then won a crunch clash with Clegg in Heat 14 and clinched the title in Heat 20, with the race being awarded after Jack Kingston fell at the end of lap three.

Jenkins said: “I’m over the moon. It’s a tough meeting to win, because there were some quality riders in it. Jason beat me in one race and I had other riders pushing me in the others.

“I was watching the whole meeting, so I knew what was going on and I knew what I needed to do in my final race.

“I fluffed the start at the first attempt, so I was a bit fortunate that it got pulled back. I made a few changes to the bike prior to the re-run, and it all came good.

“It’s great to win something for Oxford – I was mindful that I was representing them in this meeting.”
