Report

SHEFFIELD are through to the League Cup Final – by the skin of their teeth after a 46-44 home defeat to Wolverhampton.

The Tigers did just enough to top the Northern group on race points difference, with just two points between two sides after four matches apiece.

Wolves fought back from eight points down on the night with skipper Sam Masters involved in 5-1s with Steve Worrall in Heat 11 and then Nick Morris in Heat 15 to snatch an away win.

Morris scored 12 with Masters adding 11+3, whilst Jack Holder collected 11 for the Tigers who will now face King’s Lynn in the Final.

Masters said: “To win the meeting here is tough especially with how good Sheffield have been going this year.

“So I’m stoked for the boys with that, they all dug deep, and it’s a good warm-up for the next time we come here.

“I’m happy with the end result – but of course I’m not happy that we didn’t make the Final.”

Sheffield skipper Kyle Howarth said: “They came here and put a shift in all night, and fair play to them, they got it in the end.

“Some of our lads just weren’t quite there tonight, but that’s just how it goes sometimes. It’s a disappointing night for us, but we are through to the Final and we’ll come back fighting.”
