PREVIEW: EDINBURGH v NEWCASTLE (Champ)

EDINBURGH will look to gain ground on the Championship’s top two when they host Newcastle at Armadale tonight (Friday).

The Monarchs are five points behind second-placed Glasgow, who they meet in home and away derbies next weekend, and they have two matches in hand – and four in hand over leaders Scunthorpe.

Home second-string Nathan Greaves has been ruled out after suffering heavy bruising in a crash during GB practice at King’s Lynn on Thursday, and rider-replacement will operate, whilst Tom Woolley replaces Joe Lawlor due to his Covid self-isolation.

Ryan Terry-Daley stands in at reserve for the Diamonds with new signing Archie Freeman racing in the British U21 Final.

Edinburgh promoter Alex Harkess said: “The Diamonds have had some not bad away scores including running us to four points earlier in the season (in the KO Cup).

“Who knows, they have got some riders who like Armadale and can ride it. If we leave the door open, they will not be far away but it’s up to us to ensure that is not the case.

“After Saturday night at Berwick our supporters will be expecting something special!”

EDINBURGH: Sam Masters, Nathan Greaves R/R, William Lawson, Josh Pickering, Richie Worrall, Tom Woolley, Kye Thomson.
NEWCASTLE: Ben Barker, Adam Roynon R/R, Connor Mountain, Max Clegg, Matthew Wethers, James Wright, Ryan Terry-Daley.

Live streaming is available via the EMTV section of the Edinburgh website.
