PIRATES MAKE PROGRESS
POOLE eased into the Championship play-off semi-finals with a 50-40 win at depleted Plymouth to go through by a 40-point aggregate margin.
The Pirates set up a last-four clash with Glasgow, which will be a repeat of last year’s Final, and will head to Ashfield for the first leg on Sunday.
Heat-leaders Richard Lawson (13) and Steve Worrall (12) led the way at the Coliseum, whilst Plymouth’s guest reserve Lee Complin scored a terrific 15 points and Scott Nicholls added 14 at No.1.
Poole co-promoter Danny Ford said: “We came here to do the business, and that was what we achieved.
“For sure, we are going to be meeting some stronger-looking sides as we host Leicester in the Cup on Wednesday and then go to Glasgow on Sunday in the play-offs, but we could easily have taken our foot of the gas once we had scored the 31 points we needed.
“But we did that at Heat 11, and still went on to rack up a score of 50 points.
“We have three very big meetings coming up, so if we can maintain the form that we are in right now then our season could be very much alive heading into October.”
