LIONS ONE WIN AWAY

LEICESTER defeated Edinburgh 47-42 to move to within one win of securing top spot in the Championship ahead of the play-offs.

The Lions went eight points in front after just three races but the Monarchs then kept in touch throughout the meeting, and secured a league point with a 4-2 in Heat 15, which assists their own play-off prospects.

Nick Morris scored 14 for the Lions, dropping his only point to Edinburgh guest Richard Lawson in that final race. Lawson (11+1) and Josh Pickering (10) led the way for the visitors.

Morris said: “It was an important win, and a really tough night. The boys from Edinburgh stuck it to us, and a few parts of the team are struggling so hopefully we can get those boys going.

“We needed to keep the home unbeaten streak going to make sure we can stay on top of the league, and it wasn’t easy, but we got it done.

“The plan now is to beat Berwick next Sunday, but we won’t take anything for granted.”

Edinburgh boss John Campbell said: “I think Richard Lawson was a very adequate replacement for Sam (Masters)! We definitely deserved our point, all of our riders did their bit.”
