DIAMONDS GOOD TO GO

NEWCASTLE have been given the green light to launch their home season on Sunday June 6.

The Diamonds’ fears of a further delay have been allayed by agreement with both Newcastle City Council and stadium landlords Arena Racing Company following hard work to make Brough Park a Covid-secure venue.

The opening meeting against Edinburgh can take place with a slightly increased capacity compared to original plans, with strict Covid-19 regulations in place, whilst press and practice will be behind closed doors on May 30.

Promoter Rob Grant said: “We have to be aware that without following these regulations then we would just simply not be able to run at all.

“So we believe it is a small sacrifice to pay in the short-term to ensure racing at Newcastle is part of the long-term future, and we hope to be somewhere closer to normality as we all know it by the end of June

“All of us at the promotion of Newcastle would like to sincerely thank everyone at Newcastle City Council and ARC for their co-operation and continued support in order to give Newcastle the green light to run.”
