BRUMMIES’ PATIENCE PAYS OFF

BIRMINGHAM co-owner David Mason is pleased he didn’t press the panic button in the search for their final signing.

The Brummies held talks with several riders in their search for the final piece of their 2021 team jigsaw – but patience paid off last week when double World Longtrack Champion Erik Riss changed his mind and decided to return to British Speedway with the Perry Barr club.

Mason said: “Erik’s change of plans has certainly worked in our favour; we got in touch with him as soon as we knew he was available again, and it made us glad we didn’t just panic and say yes for the sake of saying yes elsewhere as that would’ve been very easy to do.

“Erik is such an exciting rider who has already proved he can score points around Birmingham.

“His signing totally transforms our hopes for the season and rather than talking about what could be, when you now look at our team on paper, we can start talking about what should be this year.”
