BEARS WIN BUT TWO HURT

REDCAR defeated Newcastle 39-21 in a local derby which had to be curtailed after ten races due to two lengthy injury delays.

Bears guest Ben Cook came down in Heat 6 and required a trip to hospital, whilst the Diamonds’ Matthew Wethers then fell heavily in Heat 9 and was also withdrawn from the meeting.

Jake Allen scored a three-ride paid maximum (8+1) for the hosts with guest Stefan Nielsen collecting 9+1 from five, whilst James Wright notched 7+1 for the visitors.

Redcar boss Jade Mudgway said: “I’m happy to get the three points, and I hope the two injured riders make a quick recovery.

“Stefan was great for us this evening, he always gives 100 per cent and we are grateful for him doing us a favour.”

Newcastle boss Steve Pate said: “We’ll put this one behind us now as it really was one of those nights to forget and move on from.

“We’re monitoring Matty’s condition all the way and see how he feels. We never got a chance to really get going tonight and not the best for Adam’s (Roynon) return nor Archie’s (Freeman) official debut.”
