BEARS WIN AT BERWICK
REDCAR bounced back from Friday’s home defeat by ending Berwick’s own record at Shielfield Park with a 47-43 victory.
The Bears took advantage of the Bandits’ availability issues, with the hosts reduced to three of their own regular riders after Jye Etheridge crashed out in Heat 1.
Guest Nick Morris (12), Theo Pijper (11+3) and Ricky Wells (10+1) kept Berwick in the hunt, but a 3-3 in the last race sealed the result with Erik Riss (13+1) and Charles Wright (11+1) finishing ahead of Wells.
Bandits boss Gary Flint said: “With a large chunk of our usual guys out of action it was always going to be a tougher ask than normal, and then losing Jye to a shoulder injury a quarter of a lap into Heat 1, we were well up against the odds.
“Our guests tried every ounce of the way with Lee Complin looking like the lad we used to have in the side a decade ago, while Nick took a good total and a spectacular final heat race.
“But well done Bears on a win certainly deserved.”
