AWESOME WIN FOR LAWSON

MAXIMUM man Richard Lawson was delighted to end his long wait for a league title as Poole clinched the Championship on Friday.

Lawson was unbeaten by an opponent with 14+1 in the Pirates’ second leg victory over Leicester, having also won four of his five races in the first leg at Wimborne Road.

And after being involved in three KO Cup winning teams earlier in his career, including this season with Poole, this was his first league crown after first appearing in the sport back in 2008.

Lawson said: “It’s a dream true. The league title has eluded me for numerous years, and it really did mean a lot to me to bring this home.

“It’s been a pleasure to ride with everyone in the team, it’s just been awesome, and it was part of the appeal of me going to Poole because the success story is unbelievable and I’m speaking first-hand now of how good that is.

“I’ve been close a few times, I’ve been in play-off Finals but never got it over the line, and I’m so happy for the club and everyone that works behind the scenes.”
