TIGERS WIN LEAVES PIRATES TOP

POOLE have been confirmed as Cab Direct Championship leaders ahead of the play-offs after Oxford were beaten 51-39 at Glasgow on Friday.

The Cheetahs did take the aggregate point from their trip to Ashfield but they needed to win the meeting in order to overhaul the Pirates, who now receive choice of opposition in the group stages.

Vadim Tarasenko made an excellent Tigers debut with 13+1 in Glasgow’s victory, whilst Tom Brennan (11) and Chris Harris (10) added double figures. Sam Masters top scored for Oxford with 13.

Cheetahs boss Peter Schroeck said: “We knew Glasgow had quality in their team from one to seven. We kept them honest through the meeting which is pleasing, and the boys gave it everything which is all we can ask for.

“Finishing runners-up at the end of our regular season is a fantastic achievement and we enter the play-offs knowing we have the capacity to go all the way this year.

“There’s still a lot of work to do, but we’re up for the challenge and next Wednesday will be a fantastic occasion for everyone connected to the club.”

Both Poole and Oxford have confirmed their intention to stage a play-off fixture at home this Wednesday.
