TIGERS TOP WITH KEY WIN

GLASGOW moved top of the Cab Direct Championship with a narrow 46-44 win at Oxford to inflict the Cheetahs’ first home defeat in the league for nearly three years.

There were never more than two points between the sides with the match turning on a 5-1 in Heat 11 for the Tigers when home reserve Mitch McDiarmid suffered mechanical trouble on the last bend.

The visitors went ahead in that incident and then shared the last four races with Kyle Howarth and skipper Chris Harris keeping Luke Killeen at the back in Heat 15 to clinch the win.

Harris scored 12+1 with Howarth adding 11+1 and guest Justin Sedgmen chipped in with 10, whilst Oxford captain Sam Masters scored 14 with his best support coming from Killeen who raced to ten from his four programmed rides prior to Heat 15.

Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “That was a sensational performance from the boys. Oxford is a very difficult place to go.

“We’ve got the win without Dan Thompson and two guests, we’ve dug that one from nowhere.

“Chris and Kyle knew what they had to do in the last race, they just settled for the shared heat to get the win. But they were fabulous throughout the meeting, so consistent and solid.”
