TIGERS INTO BSN SERIES FINAL
GLASGOW are the first team through to the BSN Series Final after a 22-point aggregate victory over Scunthorpe, which was rounded off at Ashfield on Friday.
The Tigers won their home leg 55-35 and were in control from the third race following early wins for Scorpions duo Ryan Douglas and Connor Mountain.
And they put the tie effectively out of reach with a hat-trick of 5-1s from Heats 8-10 to set up a Final against either Redcar or Poole.
Chris Harris top-scored for the Tigers with 12+1 and Benjamin Basso picked up 11+3, dropping his only point to Douglas in Heat 15 with the visitors’ No.1 scoring a superb 14 from five rides.
And the Tigers are also delighted with the progression of youngster Ace Pijper, who was involved in two 5-1s on his way to 5+3.
Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “That was seriously impressive from the boys. I know we look strong at Ashfield but that was a red-hot display.
“Some of the racing was out of the top drawer. Chris Harris and Tom Brennan both produced devastating passes, especially Chris inflicting the only defeat on Ryan.
“We are now in the Final and that’s a great start to the season. It will be tough whether we face Redcar or Poole. But to reach a Final in the first two months of the season is excellent.”
Scorpions manager Dave Peet said: “We came here and gave it a go, but Glasgow are a very strong team around their own track.
“We weren’t too far behind early on, but from Heat 6, Glasgow started to power away and by the end of Heat 10, they had it in the bag.
“After that, we chose not to make any programme changes, because we’re back at Glasgow in a month in a league match and we gave all the lads a further chance to gain some track time. We held Glasgow over the last five races and that bodes well for when we come back here.”
