TIGERS BACK ON TRACK

GLASGOW answered the call for improvement with a 49-41 win over Plymouth in an entertaining clash at Ashfield.

The Tigers collected the Cab Direct Championship points despite a vintage showing from the visitors’ Scott Nicholls, who rolled back the years to score 16 points from six rides.

Nicholls and Danny King combined for 5-1s in Heats 11 and 13 to keep the Gladiators in the contest having been ten points down, but the home reserves also came up trumps in the closing stages.

Freddy Hodder partnered Leon Flint to a 5-1 in Heat 12 and Sam Hagon, who scored 9+2, did likewise with Kevin Juhl Pedersen in Heat 14 to secure the points.

Flint top-scored for the Tigers with 11 points whilst Nicholls was backed up by Danny King with 10+2 for the Gladiators.

Glasgow manager Cami Brown said: “It was Sam and Freddy who won us the meeting, they came up with the key moments. I’m delighted for them, because they’ve come in for some stick so far this season. 

“It has been tough for them at times. But they have shown the right attitude, worked really hard and put in the hours of practice behind the scenes to get it right.

“Most people don’t see what they’ve put into it, but they got the reward they deserve.” 

Plymouth boss Garry May said: “It was a really good, tight meeting and Scott was going out there really wide and liking it, and Danny was liking it as well.

“The new boy (Anze Grmek, 8+1) did well as well, it was the first time he’d ever seen this track, but we’ve just got to get the others going now a little bit.”
