TIGERS BACK ON TOP

GLASGOW overcame injury problems to return to the top of the Cab Direct Championship with a 52-38 win over Berwick at Ashfield.

Already without Kevin Juhl Pedersen, the Tigers lost Mario Hausl in the early stages of the meeting and No.1 Kyle Howarth was also riding through the pain barrier.

But skipper Chris Harris scored a 14+1 paid maximum whilst Leon Flint added 16 from six rides as the home side finally shook off the Bandits with two 5-1s in the last four races.

Peter Kildemand made a successful return from injury with 13+1 for the visitors, who were left to rue several points dropped from scoring positions.

Tigers boss Cami Brown said: “It was a very tough night. We had to make sure we covered for all the rides somehow. There was a lot to deal with tactically. 

“But I have to say the boys responded magnificently. Leon, Chris and the reserves Sam Hagon and Freddy Hodder were outstanding.

“Unfortunately we may well lose Mario for a while with a hand injury after his Heat 1 crash. Kyle also tweaked something because he’s only just back from injury as well. 

“We’ve had blow after blow lately but we are hanging in there and getting results. The boys showed some real resolve tonight to get the job done.”

Bandits boss Stewart Dickson said: “I don’t think the scoreline is a true reflection of our efforts on the night.

“But there is a reason that Glasgow are top of the league and they took full advantage of any mistakes we made.”
