THOMSEN BIDS PIRATES FAREWELL

POOLE’S Danish star Tobias Thomsen has revealed a clash of commitments in his homeland has ruled him out of a third season at Wimborne Road in 2026.

Thomsen has won five major trophies with the Pirates, including a league and Cup double this year, but his Danish League place with Brovst means he would be unavailable for several Wednesday nights, so he will be racing elsewhere in the UK.

He said: “I have now signed a UK contract but sadly it is not with Poole. It is not that I don’t want to be a Pirate again, I really do, but it just isn’t possible.

“I want to be able to give 100 per cent to my teams and it would not be good for me to have to miss so many meetings. We have seen some riders try it in the past, and it doesn’t work.

“I would like to thank everyone at Poole for their support for me over the past two seasons. Without a doubt the greatest moment in my speedway career for me personally was the 2024 Grand Final against Oxford. I will never forget that.”

Meanwhile Poole have confirmed 16-year-old Will Cairns will return next year after a successful opening stint in the Cab Direct Championship, and he joins No.1 Richard Lawson in the team.
