STRONG ADVANTAGE FOR SCORPIONS
SCUNTHORPE raced to a healthy first leg led in their BSN Series semi-final away from home as they won 49-40 at Edinburgh on Friday.
The Monarchs started well with a 5-1 in Heat 1 but things went downhill from there, and after the returning Justin Sedgmen won his first two rides he then crashed in Heat 11 and had to pull out with hand and arm injuries.
Michael Palm Toft scored an impressive 12 for the Scorpions, including four race wins, and Jake Allen added 10. Josh Pickering notched 11 for the Monarchs.
Scorpions boss David Howe said: “I’m very happy. It was a terrific performance by all the lads tonight. We dug in and kept going.
“It was important to stay in contention in the opening four or five races. We did that and then built on that and ended up with a nice margin for the second leg.
“We capitalised on a few things that went our way and I hope Sedgy isn’t too badly hurt. We do seem to do better on our second trips to away tracks and we proved that again tonight!”
Pickering said: “I’m very disappointed, it’s not what I expected and it’s not what I wanted. I’m quite annoyed to be honest.
“We needed more race wins, we didn’t have enough heat winners and when we did win, it was 3-3s. We lost Sedgy which is no good.”
