SIMON TIPPED TO STEP UP

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey is backing former skipper Simon Lambert to regain his best form this season.

Lambert is back with the Scorpions on what should be a bargain four-and-a-half point average after a below-par 2025, and he has handed the captaincy over to new signing Josh Pickering.

Godfrey said: “Simon is adamant that last season was a blip and I’ve seen that with other riders in the past.

“I remember Kev Doolan when everyone thought it was time for him to pack it in and then he had a season when he became a nine-point rider.

“I’m not saying Simon is going to be a nine-point rider but he’s going to be a good 6.5-7.00 type.”

The Scorpions open their season with a home clash against Redcar in the BSN Series on Sunday (3pm).
