SCORPIONS UP FOR THE CUP

SCUNTHORPE promoter Rob Godfrey feels momentum is with his side as they prepare for the Championship KO Cup Final.

The Scorpions have never won the KO Cup in the second tier, and they face Poole in the Final with the first leg at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday and the return in Dorset next Wednesday.

The Pirates won on their most recent visit in the league play-offs, before their Grand Final defeat to Glasgow.

Godfrey said: “I feel we’ve got the momentum going into the Cup Final, following two very good victories over Redcar in the semi-finals.

“I think everyone who went to Redcar last Friday could see just how much skipper Simon Lambert and the rest of the boys are up to win the Knockout Cup this season.

“We’ve been one of the top four teams in this division this season and we wanted another chance to beat Poole, after they knocked us out of the play-offs. On that occasion, we held them 45-45 with a great performance at their place, only for us to then lose on our track.

“Sometimes, you can find yourselves a bit under pressure from having the second leg at your own track, so I’m quite pleased to have the first leg of the Cup Final at home. It means our lads can just enjoy their night and have a good meeting.”
