SCORPIONS’ STATEMENT OF INTENT

SCUNTHORPE warmed up for the Cab Direct Championship play-offs with a convincing 58-32 win over Berwick at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Ryan Douglas scored a full 15-point maximum for the Scorpions whilst Michael Palm Toft went through the card from four rides with 11+1, a total matched by Jake Allen from five outings.

The win moves the home side up to fourth place in the table, although Redcar can reclaim that position on Sunday with a win over Glasgow.

Scorpions manager Dave Peet said: “It was a good team performance. Berwick have riders in their team who can ride our track and this was a potential banana skin fixture for us.

“But when we had the team talk before the meeting, we said to the lads that we wanted to put out a statement of intent before the play-offs and we did just that. We fear no-one.”

Bandits boss Scott Courtney said: “All that’s left is to make sure that we consign Plymouth to the bottom of the table at Shielfield tomorrow night (Saturday).

“There was a lot of effort tonight from all of the boys and we played our part in a really good speedway meeting but have nothing to show for it.”
